Egan Bernal has abandoned the Volta a Catalunya 2023 a day ahead of schedule. He suffered a fall 90 kilometers from the finish line of the sixth stage along with three Caja Rural - RGA riders.
The Colombian has given his foot to land about 15 minutes later, after his condition caused some concern by not getting up immediately. At the moment the consequences of the fall are unknown, so it could be a decision taken simply as a precaution, but after the Ineos Grenadiers rider had missed almost two months of competition before his return to this race, the concern is evident.
Update: INEOS Grenadiers has in the meantime confirmed that the Colombian has suffered no fractures. Following the incident he was taken to an hospital to be analyzed, but the results have pointed towards a positive result. However he has abandoned the race and taken another hit in his spring campaign.
