Luck rewards the brave and those who help their teammates. At the Tro-Bro Léon Pierre Gautherat allowed his teammate Bastien Tronchon to take the victory on an epic day of racing, and 5 days later the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale rider has taken his first pro win at the 4 Jours de Dunkerque.
The third day of the race presented opportunities to attack, mostly in the form of cobbled sectors spread throughout the day which featured a circuit around the town of Famars. 7 laps, and we've seen a breakaway consisting of Fernando Gaviria, Kenny Molly, Samuel Leroux, William Blume Levy, Cedric Beullens, Michael Schwarzmann and Ceriel Desal. Gil Gelders also spent some time solo off the front, but without company in such a circuit it was always going to be a very difficult task.
With 2.7 kilometers to go Samuel Watson attacked on the final lap, with Alberto Bettiol then going over the top. After the climb however it calmed down and Pierre Gautherat attacked to get a gap over the rest of the peloton. It proved to be the decisive attack of the day, as the Frenchman had the legs to hold off the chasing peloton where Jake Stewart sprinted to second and race leader Axel Zingle was third.
