UAE Tour: Tim Merlier outsprints Sam Bennett to victory on stage 6

It was the fourth and final sprint at the UAE Tour, a furious one which has seen Tim Merlier capture his second stage win of the week.

Although the wind was present it wasn't a stressful day in the bunch. Samuele Zoccarato (Green Project - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè), Edward Planckaert (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Larry Warbasse (AG2R Citroën Team) went up the road but they were never a threat to the peloton. Several teams commited to a chase with the gap never growing much.

The final survivor in the flat roads was Warbasse who was collected by the bunch with 5 kilometers to go as the leadouts swarmed the entire length of the road. The sprint was being prepared with once again very high speeds for early on, fruit of the fresh legs and immense sprinter depth present in the race.

Many leadouts took to the front until the very end. High speeds and risks were present. Jayco AlUla stepped to the front in the final sprint but too early, BORA - hansgrohe managed to launch Sam Bennett at the right time. However in the final sprint Tim Merlier made his move and he was unbeatable.

It was a high-speed dash to the line with some of the very best sprinters in the world, Merlier timed his move to perfection in the green jersey with a comfortable lead over Sam Bennett. Dylan Groenewegen sprinted to third as the GC riders arrived safely in the peloton.
