The 1st of August is just around the door and the transfer market is buzzing. With the riders fresh out of the Tour de France, contract negotiations are underway for many, and among the most recent news, there are updates on Victor Lafay and Caleb Ewan.
The Frenchman, who has had a breakthrough Tour de France with a spectacular performance in the Basque Country and won stage two, immediately had several teams having him on radar. It is said that at least five World Tour teams were in talks with Lafay's management and INEOS Grenadiers being a leading contender. However, according to GCN's Daniel Benson, the Frenchman - who will be certainly leaving Cofidis at the end of the season - will not move to the British team because of the demanded financial boost.
He has also reported on Caleb Ewan, who abandoned the Tour de France and has then been harshly criticized by Lotto Dstny's CEO. A verbal battle between Sébastien Heulot and Ewan's management continued in the initial days after the departure, and although he has a contract until 2024, a split seemed inevitable. However according to a source near Ewan, it seems as if the situation may have improved:
"I doubt it’s 100% as I think both parties are having mature discussions about the options available and one of those is to depart so it’s not 100% he’s there next year on that basis," he was told.
