The route for the Tour of the Alps has been presented this Friday, with the Alpine racing once again taking the riders through northern Italy and Austria in what is one of the most important races heading into the Giro d'Italia.
The race will start with a hilltop finish in Alpbach which should open up the GC fight, followed by another explosive finale in Renon as the race crosses the border from it's start in Austraia into the Italian Alps. The third day will be a high-mountain stage with a summit finish in San Valentino featuring 14.5 kilometers at 7.6%. Stage 4 will have a very tough start with the ascent of the Passo Sommo (15Km; 7.5%) but an easier downhill finale after the ascent of the Passo di Pramadiccio (6.5Km; 6.2%), and the final day will have a similar format with a long climb towards the start, but the decisive climb of Riomolino (5Km; 11.4%) positioned close to the rolling finish in Brunico.
Last year the race has been won by Romain Bardet, who thrived on the final rainy day where he and teammate Thymen Arensman raided the race on a rainy day. The race is frequently the last preparation race for the Giro d'Italia contenders, and should see a very hefty startlist in 2023 before the start in Abruzzo.
