Stage 2 of the
Tour of Guangxi has seen
Jonathan Milan once again impress and he has taken the stage win, taking over the race lead as well.
The breakaway was formed by Dries de Bondt (Alpecin-Deceunink), Thomas Champion (Cofidis), Jens Reynders (Israel - Premier Tech) and Julius Johansen (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty). The quartet saw de Bondt take more bonus seconds after yesterday and get himself in the provisional race lead.
After the final intermediate sprint only Johansen and Reynders kept pushing the pace in the front of the race, and they were eventually caught with 7 kilometers to go. Then a surprise almost emerged as several riders attacked off the front and got a meaningful gap which seemed to dictate the end of the sprinters' chances.
The move had a lot of riders but eventually collaboration wasn't perfect and they were caught with just a few kilometers to go. A very fast and pan-flat sprint followed, with Jonathan Milan today emerging as the fastest, a dominant and impressive win which also earned him the race lead. He beat
Arvid de Kleijn and
Juan Sebastián Molano to the line.
