Tour de Wallonie 2024 | Corbin Strong proves strongest to take first win of 2024 on stage 2

In a punchy finale to the day, Israel - Premier Tech's Corbin Strong proved strongest to take his first victory of 2024.

After the controversial finale of stage 1 which saw a number of riders go the wrong way in the last few kilometres, before Jordi Meeus sprinted to victory, three riders got themselves up the road on stage 2, hoping to deny the bunch the opportunity to fight for victory again.

With 15km to go though, the breakaway were swallowed up by the peloton. As the pace momentarily calmed down afterwards however, the attacks began again on a second category climb with just around 12km to go. Although no riders were able to properly snap the elastic on the climb, the peloton was incredibly strung out by the attacks.

Then, on the descent, a seven rider group got clear including Juan Pedro Lopez, Simon Clarke, Samuel Watson and Rune Herregodts among others. Even that move was dragged back by the bunch ahead of the punchy finale however. Heading towards the line, Corbin Strong just about held off TotalEnergies' Emilien Jeannière.
