Tour de Pologne | Tim Wellens wins key time-trial whilst Jonas Vingegaard takes over race lead

Jonas Vingegaard didn't manage to take the victory as expected in the time-trial of the Tour de Pologne but he has taken a step in achieving his prime goal. The Dane is the new race leader after coming second to Tim Wellens who was crowned winner on stage 2.

The 15-kilometer long time-trial was always going to be a key day for the overall classification, whilst in the bigger picture the hilly stages wouldn't make huge differences. Against the clock all those looking to fight for the GC had to give it their all in a TT that featured quite a lot of climbing, with the very same finale as yesterday's opening stage.

Romain Bardet was the first rider to put in a strong time that could contest for a result, then taking over the hot seat for a while. Soon after though many quality riders began to arrive and take over... Former race winner Tim Wellens was among them and took over the lead with a strong time. The likes of Felix Grossschartner, Oscar Onley, Max Schachmann and Magnus Sheffield could not beat him.

Jonas Vingegaard crossed the finish line with the second best time, missing out on a possible victory. Wilco Kelderman, who crashed during the time-trial, also lost some time. Vingegaard surged to the race lead after Thibau Nys struggled deeply against the clock and lost the race lead. Felix Grossschartner finished third on the day.
