Tough day at the office for Bauke Mollema as Dutchman suffers mechanical and then collides with seagull during Mixed Relay

Bauke Mollema had ambitions of ending today's journey in Wollongong with a medal, but has left with everything but. The representative of the Netherlands suffered a bad day in the Mixed Relay TTT, but this time it was not a lack of legs, but a lack of luck instead.

Annemiek van Vleuten had crashed at the start of her effort in today's event, but in the men's side there wasn't much luck either as Bauke Mollema suffered a mechanical early in his effort and left the Netherlands down to two riders in each split.

The bad luck was not to end there for Mollema however. Some days ago he was attacked by a Magpie during a training ride, but today after being distanced by his teammates, a photographer managed to catch the unbelievable moments in which Mollema collided with a seagull during the race. He ended up not playing much of a part in the team's effort, which eventually missed out on the medals.
