On my way to the hospital for x rays of my right side. All bruised and especially worried about my right elbow/arm. My front tire exploded and I crashed.
What was initially a day with lots of ambitions and potential turned into a horror display for Annemiek van Vleuten, who crashed hard at the start of the Mixed Relay TTT and is currently in the hospital evaluating her possible injuries.
The Dutch veteran has shared two messages on twitter, first writing that she believes her front tire exploded and that caused the crash. In the first seconds of the women's team effort she crashed hard on her right side, and is currently "on my way to the hospital for x rays". She reports that she is bruised and "especially worried about my right elobw/arm".
This crash did not only leave the Dutch team out of the expected medals at the event, but can have more and serious consequences for Van Vleuten, who was a prime favourite for this weekend's road race in the hilly Wollongong circuit, but now her participation may be in jeopardy.
More updates on her situation will be provided throughout the day.

Don't know what happened but looks the tire exploded after I did hit the side of the road. So that was not the problem. Something caused I got out of balance, but what ever caused it: it will not help or change my situation. Now in the hospital. 🤞🤞
⚠️ CRASH for @AvVleuten!! ⚠️ Mechanical issue causes horrible crash for the Dutch superstar. Really disappointing day for the Dutch. #Wollongong2022
