Tom Pidcock rode a much-reduced cyclocross calendar this winter, with Benidorm this weekend set to end his campaign. We don't have to wait too long to see the Brit back competing on the road however, with his season debut now confirmed.
The former cyclocross world champion's already shortened winter calendar was brought down either recently when Pidcock had to skip a number of races due to illness. "It was a shame to miss races, but it was the right thing to do," the INEOS Grenadiers superstar said in quotes collected by GCN. "I wasn’t feeling myself so it was time to reset. I’ve been fully focused on my health over the last two weeks and now I’m in Spain and back to training."
As mentioned, this weekend in Benidorm brings an end to his cyclocross campaign. "I am happy that I’m feeling myself again. I don’t have a specific goal for Benidorm but I will enjoy the race, the sun and the great crowds," he previews.
From there, road racing is back in the focus of the 24-year-old as he returns at the Volta ao Algarve, although not before a quick stop off on the mountain bike. "I will likely race mountain bike on 11 February before travelling on to the [Volta ao] Algarve, and then probably follow a similar road programme to last year," Pidcock concludes.
