After victories at the UAE Tour and Vuelta a Espana - among others - Juan Sebastian Molano has taken a victory at the Tour of Guangxi. The Colombian sprinter has had a stupendous season and ends it in style.
“The first few days it didn't go the way I wanted, but today I had the perfect sprint," Molano said in a post-race interview. “I found the right moment and the space to move up nicely. The sprints here are different, because the roads are less technical and so wide. It can therefore be more unpredictable and less controlled.”
Molano was not a fan of the chaotic sprints in the first days of the race and couldn't manage to pull off better than a third place on the second day of the race - then not being in contention for the other two. Today however everything fit into perfection, he jumped off the wheel of an early launch from Jonathan Milan - as did others - and beat Olav Kooij in a head-to-head sprint.
“Today the race was a bit tougher than the other days, so we arrived with some fatigue at the finish. That suits me better, and we managed to finish it. It's the perfect way to end the season," the UAE Team Emirates rider concludes. It is a very important result and his fifth win of the season. From next year onwards he will have more room to lead the team in the sprints as other fast men leave to new destinations.
