Tim Merlier punches through to re-take Belgian road race title

Tim Merlier is not likely to be selected to the Tour de France, however his chances may have changed today as the Belgian returned to his best level and took a strong win at the Belgian national championships with the win in the final sprint.

The race in Middelkerke was suiting for the fast men, and despite the attacked race it still came down to a bunch sprint. Alpecin-Fenix had two option who went face to face, but Tim Merlier imposed himself to take the win, beating Jordi Meeus and Jasper Philipsen.
