The men's elite road race at the Glasgow World Championships is almost here. With the excitement building and riders doing some recon, the reaction to the course however has been mixed.
The course is an incredibly technical one, almost 50 corners included which means the likely winners of the race are almost certain to be one of the peloton's best bike handlers. After Wout van Aert reportedly called the course 'ridiculous' according to Jan Bakelants, his Jumbo-Visma teammate Tiesj Benoot has also shared some critical thoughts.
“This is the least beautiful World Championship course I've seen since I turned professional," slammed the 29-year-old Belgian in conversation with Sporza. "It is very technical and that makes it special. But it is a shame that the impact in the event of a mechanical becomes even greater.”

“It will be a spectacular World Championship, certainly to watch. Positioning becomes even more important when it rains," adds Victor Campenaerts with Nathan van Hooydonck getting the final word. “If you're all together at the front, it's fairly easy. Then you keep the position.”
