A third time knocking on the lack of luck. On the first day of the Tour de France Femmes Charlotte Kool rode to third as Lotte Kopecky's late attack worked. On stage 3's sprint DSM worked a lot but she rode to 7th, this afternoon she finally won the sprint in the peloton but only a few meters behind the stage win.
“I had everything under control in the sprint, but it doesn't matter. I am second. Winning the sprint, so close behind the winner, is a big nightmare," Kool told Eurosport after the end of stage 6. A huge disappointment, the Dutch sprinter saw former teammate Lorena Wiebes abandon and became a big favourite to win today's stage - the final opportunity for the sprinters.
Team DSM-Firmenich worked together with Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team ADQ to put on a strong chase to the three-rider breakaway that stood out in the day: "The pursuit of the escapees actually went quite well, a lot of teams helped." However that was not enough. A big hit for Kool, who won the sprint in the peloton ahead of Lotte Kopecky, but saw Emma Norsgaard celebrate just ahead.
"However, the attackers themselves were also strong. In the sprint I had everything under control, but that doesn't matter. I finished second. This is really a nightmare for me," she concludes.
