No matter how hard the peloton expected stage 16 to be, it was harder. The 200 kilometer-long stage in the Alps was ridden full-gas from the start and in the final two incredibly hard climbs. The damage was immense, and the overall classification has been completely turned on it's head.
Isaac del Toro,
Richard Carapaz and
Simon Yates are separated by mere seconds after the huge gaps that have been opened.
Primoz Roglic has abandoned the race and hence is not part of the overall classification anymore.
Juan Ayuso, previously third, cracked on the penultimate climb and then did not aim to close gaps, and is now 17th in the updated standings. Thymen Arensman also had a bad day and fell to 15th. This means we have plenty changes even in the Top10, where all of a sudden Michael Storer is 7th and Giulio Pellizzari, after 1 day of freedom, jumped directly into 9th in the GC.
