After a chaotic finish on stage 3 of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, it was Jonathan Milan who emerged victorious after a perfect leadout from his Lidl - Trek team, who kept him in good position in what was a crash-marred finale. The victory marked Milan’s first win for Lidl - Trek, having joined the team at the start of this season from Bahrain Victorious.
In his post-race interview, Milan said “this is a really special victory. It is nice to start the season like this”. On what the victory means for the team, he went on to say that “we came here with one goal, to bring home some results and I think that we did it”.
In his analysis of the stage, the Italian rider was very complimentary of his team, saying that “today we did such an amazing job in the last kilometres, the guys really supported me during the stage and in the final metres they put me in the perfect position for me to do my sprint”.
On his plans for the rest of the season, Milan stated “this season will be really important for me. Now we have to finish this race, then we will have opening weekend, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo, more or less all of the Classics and then the Giro d’Italia and the Olympics. There are many goals, but let’s take everything step-by-step and for now we enjoy this victory”.
