Soudal - Quick-Step will be able to boast one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in American cycling on their roster for 2024, in the form on Luke Lamperti.
The 21-year-old has been touted by some as 'the new Peter Sagan', with the boss of Soudal - Quick-Step, Patrick Lefevere being very outspoken in his praise of the former Trinity Racing star during a winter, pre-season training camp. “Watch out for the American guy. He’s fast and strong,” said Lefevere.
A guest recently on the Bobby & Jens podcast, Lamperti revealed he never had any qualms about choosing Soudal - Quick-Step as the perfect team to make his next step. “Their history of developing sprinters and classics riders within the team goes way back," explained the prodigy. "Back to before my time."
This kind of view is again something shared by his new boss, Patrick Lefevere. “If my memory is good, Tom Boonen started as a sprinter and ended his career as a Classics rider. Johan Museeuw was a sprinter at Lotto and became a Classics rider on my team," he recalled. "I think Luke can do the same.”
