"The riders who want to win it will have to be ready from the start" - Giro d'Italia race director Mauro Vegni delighted to share race profile with the world

Mauro Vegni, the race director of the Giro d'Italia and the man responsible for the race profile is delighted by the design he's come up with for the 2024 race.

“The design of the Giro d’Italia 2024 cannot be compared to previous editions,” says Vegni, who first took on the role of head of the RCS all the way back in 2012. 2024 will see the 107th edition of the battle for the Maglia Rosa and the 64-year-old believes next year's could be one of the most exciting in the long history of the Giro d'Italia.

"It starts uphill, and that is not a way of speaking, since from the second day the peloton will face the first finish uphill in Oropa, where we will pay tribute to one of the most heroic days in history of the Corsa Rosa," Vegni continues, referencing Marco Pantani's legendary win atop the climb back in 1999.

"It is an evolving route, which includes numerous stages of medium and high mountain, which will test the riders not only in the third week, whose hardness in recent years has somewhat blocked the race," he concludes. "We should also not underestimate the nearly 70 km time trial. The riders who want to win it will have to be ready from the start and I expect a lot of spectacle."
