With
Maciej Bodnar announcing his retirement from professional cycling in the last few days, the Pole's longtime teammate
Peter Sagan has shared a heartfelt tribute.
"Cycling is a peculiar sport. We race in teams but just one of us wins and climbs on the podium. However, behind every winner, there is a squad of riders whose tireless efforts and absolute dedication make this possible," Sagan begins his message. "Maciej Bodnar, one of the greatest silent heroes announced his decision to hang up his cycling shoes."
"It's with mixed emotions that I read the news because 'Bodi', as we call him, wasn't just another committed teammate who put on an immense effort for his team leader," continues the Slovakian. "We shared unforgettable moments of triumph and joy but also faced the struggles and challenges of this beautiful sport, but above all, Bodi was, is, and will always be a truly good friend."
"Bodi, as you embark on the next chapter of your journey, may the roads ahead be smooth, and may you never face any headwinds," Sagan concludes. "Farewell, and thank you for the incredible journey, my good friend."
"You are a great champion a great friend, but I didn't know you had such a talent for writing," replied Bodnar. "Thank you for the beautiful words, 14 years, only we know what it was like and it was awesome."
