Surprise at the Spanish national championships! David de la Cruz takes time-trial title as Movistar fumble

David de la Cruz has been proclaimed new Spanish time trial champion. The Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rider completed the Galapagar course in less than 39 minutes, more than half a minute ahead of Markel Beloki and Raúl García Pierna, who closed the podium. The big favorite, Oier Lazkano, finished fourth ahead of Txomin Juaristi.

It was not the best day for Movistar Team, as the other strong man of the team, Iván Romeo, could not finish higher than sixth place ahead of Xabier Mikel Azparren and Pablo Castrillo. De la Cruz, who last year rode the WorldTour with Astana, shows once again that he is a great cyclist with a great level, after having also recently finished in the Top10 of the mountain time-trial at the Tour de Suisse.

In the women's race the winner was again Mireia Benito (AG Insurance-Soudal Team) who was accompanied on the podium by Sandra Alonso (Ceratizit) and Mavi García (Liv AlUla Jayco). Also the Movistar Sara Martín and Sheyla Gutiérrez out of the podium.

In the under-23 race, Aitor Agirre (Laboral Kutxa) won ahead of Alberto Fernández Reviejo (Caja Rural-Alea) and Luis García (Laboral Kutxa). Juan Pedro Lozano (Valverde Team-Ricardo Fuentes) and Alejandro Paz Albores (Padrones Cortizo) closed the top 5.
