Paris-Roubaix is right at our doorstep and
David Lappartient has talked about the future of the race, which included it's place in the season calendar. The possibility of it being removed from the spring has brought out some criticism from the peloton.
On a recent interview with Wielerflits, UCI president David Lappartient has talked about the possibility of changing Paris-Roubaix's place in the calendar: "I spoke about this with organizer ASO. They indicated that there would never have been any consideration before to change the Paris-Roubaix date. Now they are very different. In the future, that creates many more possibilities,"
In a pre-race conference for Paris-Roubaix, Stuyven was not conservative when it came to his criticism of Lappartients words, and has talked about the incident today at the Tour of Turkey which saw the riders navigating dozens of unmarked road bollards.
"I saw today the Tour of Turkey, and I think Lappartient is always claiming to care for our rider safety, that he should maybe focus on that instead of changing the calendar. I'm not saying it should never happen again but putting it there is only making your advertising video nicer for the upcoming year," Stuyven said.
Quick-Step's
Tim Declercq was supportive of the criticism, as he shared on Twitter the following post: "Moving Roubaix to have more chance of rain which means more chance of crashes doesn’t seem like a valid reason to me. Also the season is already so long and packed, it’s not easy to have 3 top peaks and extend it long after the worlds. For me it’s a great finale of the spring now."
