The wedding day is one of the most important in any person's life. However some happen to have another dream scheduled for the exact same day, and that was the case of Burgos-BH's Jesús Ezquerra who has had a last-minute call to the World Championships and has postponed his wedding day in order to make it to Wollongong.
In an interview with MARCA, the Burgos-BH rider has said that "it is a pride to be with the national team. There is a lot of talk about the fact that some rirders are not allowed to go. But those of us who go will go to fight to the fullest." Ezquerra was not expected to be selected to the Spanish team, but following the forced absence of several riders from Movistar Team, Bahrain - Victorious and Cofidis, it has opened the door to some. Jesús Ezquerra, who has been showing great form at the Vuelta a Espana, got the call from the Spanish national team coach.
It happened that the date collides with his wedding. However Ezquerra has revealed a solution to the clash: "If it's for something like this, it hurts less to change the wedding date. I'm going to delay it for a week. My future wife is also happy and excited about this issue because she knows it's a dream. Both things are important, the wedding more. She is the main thing, but we have decided to delay it," he said.
The World Championships men's Elite Road Race will take place in the 25th of September, and although it would be a tough ask to consider the 31-year old a contender, his recent Top10 results at the Vuelta put him in a competitive position.
