Jay Vine abandons Vuelta a Espana following early crash on stage 18

Jay Vine had been one of the major breakthroughs at the 2022 Vuelta a Espana, but the KOM leader has had the misfortune of having his race ended during the 18th stage as he crashed early in the day.

Details of the crash and injuries are still vague, however they have forced the Australian to abandon the race. Vine was the winner of the two first summit finishes of the race to Pico Jano and Colláu Fancuaya, and had been leading the KOM classification for several days already, with it close to secured towards Madrid.
