Simon Yates had as his main goal to fight for the win in a Grand Tour in 2022, but he has abandoned both of his opportunities at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana, and will be looking to finish his season on a high in the Italian Autumn classics.
Yates has won two stages at the Giro d'Italia, a stage - and second GC - at Paris-Nice, a stage and GC at the minor Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, Prueba Villafranca and two stages at the Vuelta Asturias. A successful season at some level, as he's proven to still have his best level occasionally, but his lack of consistency and badly timed illnesses have put a dent on his 2022 campaign. Today at
Coppa Agostoni it will be his first day back to competition after testing positive for Covid-19 at the Vuelta, and he will be amongst the favourites in the day.
