Simon Yates returns to peloton at Coppa Agostoni following complicated season

Simon Yates had as his main goal to fight for the win in a Grand Tour in 2022, but he has abandoned both of his opportunities at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana, and will be looking to finish his season on a high in the Italian Autumn classics.

Yates has won two stages at the Giro d'Italia, a stage - and second GC - at Paris-Nice, a stage and GC at the minor Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, Prueba Villafranca and two stages at the Vuelta Asturias. A successful season at some level, as he's proven to still have his best level occasionally, but his lack of consistency and badly timed illnesses have put a dent on his 2022 campaign. Today at Coppa Agostoni it will be his first day back to competition after testing positive for Covid-19 at the Vuelta, and he will be amongst the favourites in the day.

The team has announced it's lineups for the coming five Italian classics, and after their completion the Australian team will decide on the riders that will be present at Il Lombardia - the final monument of the season. Today Dion Smith will also have a leading position, and the lineup is completed by Kevin Colleoni, Lawson Craddock, Tsgabu Grmay, Damien Howson and Tanel Kangert.
