Florian Vermeersch is making the switch for UAE Team Emirates next year. He'll join forces with compatriot Tim Wellens in Tadej Pogacar's team. Rumour has it that Rune Herregodts is another Belgian on the radar of the super team.
Where there's smoke, there's fire. Rune Herregodts to UAE Team Emirates? "My contract with Intermarché - Wanty is indeed expiring," he confirms the possibility, "but there are options," Herregodts explains at Het Nieuwsblad. "Which ones? My current team is an option, because this is a good environment for me. UAE Team Emirates? Normally I'm a smooth talker, but now I'm going to keep quiet."
The Belgian would like to finish his medical studies before setting off on a greater adventure. "I didn't take any credits this year, but I'm certainly not going to let it go. Riding for a WorldTour team means that you're often away, so the combination with your studies was difficult. The intention is to finish your studies. A cycling career is not endless and so I want to have something up my sleeve," Herregodts shifts the topic of conversation in a different direction.
