Fred Wright and
Bahrain - Victorious told reporters at the end of stage 19 that they would not talk to reporters, and instead deliver a comment on
Primoz Roglic's accusations later in the day.
In a press release,
Jumbo-Visma and Roglic have blamed the Briton for the crash that took Roglic out of the race. The message came with an immense amount of backlash from social media, with personalities and even other riders criticizing the Dutch team's attitudes. "After the stage I was full of emotion from the race, and then when I got back to the bus I saw the statement from Jumbo. It was really hard to read, and I’m pretty disappointed," Wright said.
"I think it’s unfair, the team and I have looked at the footage again tonight, and I honestly don’t believe I did anything wrong - it was just a racing incident," he argued. Most have agreed, but as the subject was reignited today it brought in the attention of many.
"Primoz is an amazing bike rider, he was so on the up and challenging for the red jersey in Madrid. It was a huge loss for the race and I totally understand he must be very disappointed. I’m sure he’ll be smashing races again soon. He was so impressive 3 days ago, I’m gutted for him," Wright commented. Compatriot Dan McLay had other words for the statement that Jumbo-Visma issued, calling it "petty bullshit".
"There have been some pretty nasty comments, but I really appreciate all the positive messages I’ve had," he concluded. Wright sprinted to second place at today's finale at the Vuelta, and will be an outsider for the final sprint in Madrid.
