Jumbo-Visma has put out a press release this afternoon with statements from the team and Primoz Roglic regarding the crash that took him out of the Vuelta a Espana earlier this week, and that has seen a great deal of criticism itself from the large cycling audience who disagree with the accusations that Fred Wright was to blame. Dan McLay, currently riding the Vuelta, has called Roglic's arguments "petty bullshit".
On his social media, the Arkéa Samsic rider said that "it’s pretty rare that I can be bothered to comment on cycling’s petty bullshit but what a load of shit this is. Can only hope it’s a badly timed April fools joke or something." The British rider did not go easy on his words, which echoed what many over social media have agreed on, with the Dutch team's message said to be bewildering and confusing to many.
Whilst it is widely agreed that the crash was a race incident, Roglic's accusations that Fred Wright was to blame for it brought a harsh wave of criticism, and some shock amongst fans of the Slovenian. "Only thing Fred could have done to avoid that is jump over the barriers into the crowd," McLay said.
