Max Richeze had planned to end his career at the end of 2021, but UAE Team Emirates re-signed him in 2022 as new signing Alvaro Hodeg came down with injuries. Richeze will not end his career this year however, as he confirmed he will be in the peloton in 2023.
The Argentinian veteran had seemed to hang up the wheels once again in June, after his deal with the team had ended. However, he will be in the peloton in 2023, certainly riding at B&B Hotels-KTM alongside Mark Cavendish. "We both have something to prove," the Argentinian told Bici.pro. "In July I took a bit of a vacation, until the call from this rider friend came."
The statements have made even more clear the news that are yet to be confirmed. The French team are having a boost in budget and will be making a big statement on the 26th of October. Mark Cavendish is said to have already signed a new deal that will possibly allow him to ride the Tour de France, and Max Richeze - a former teammate at Quick-Step - will be one of his leadout men with almost complete certainty.
"I was happy. To have the chance to end things my way and because, when I weighed everything up, I know I can still go strong. And so I made the decision to continue," he said. Ramon Sinkeldam has been hinted as another part of the leadout, whilst Cees Bol will provide a different card to for the bunch sprints elsewhere.
"We had been talking for a long time. We always were in different teams, but he saw my work. And finally, now we will race together," Richeze continued. Cavendish could not find a World Tour contract for 2023, but with the French team having it's chances to race the Tour de France, both will be joining it with high aims next season.
Richeze said that the 'mystery rider' (he has not mentioned Cavendish's name) "chose the riders, the staff and the coaches" and "we really wants to go back to France. He wasn’t happy at not going this year," he concluded.
