Nerves are present at the Giro not only because of Covid-19 but also on the fact that the final time-trial may be changed last-minute. Sporza reported that this Friday there will be a meeting where a decision will be made, and
Remco Evenepoel is not too happy about it.
"We can still ride to the foot of the final climb and finish there. Then it's an 11 kilometer time trial," Evenepoel told Sporza. "I find it difficult to completely cancel that stage. But they can still make something else out of it. It is a pity that they would only come up with that decision now. Because they could have known this longer."

Euro/17,615 GBP in prizes! Although the stage will naturally not be outright cut, the climb to Monte Lussari may. Ever since it was announced this was a day that sparked a lot of interest - perhaps the most for many fans - as the riders were to tackle a final ascent that would reach a whole 15% for almost 5 straight kilometers. The sheer brutality of the climb caused a lot of debate and excitement among fans.
However the stage now may be changed. It's reported that the road size and conditions are far from ideal and cannot host race cars, but an issue with the alternative - which would be motorbikes - seems to have risen as well. Far from an ideal situation for the race organizers, but also not ideal for the riders who have prepared for the Giro taking into consideration that crucial day.
"There are plenty of climbs nearby that we can get to the top of. They'll find something, I don't expect there won't be stage 20 in this Giro. The schedule says that the 20th stage is a time trial, then it just has to stay that way. And preferably a similar time trial on a course that can be ridden by all types of vehicles," Evenepoel concluded.
