GC update Tour de Suisse Stage 4 - Joao Almeida storms into top 10 with solo victory

The top 10 of the 2025 Tour de Suisse was dramatically reshaped today. After a tough opening stage earlier this week, the general classification was turned on its head as the favourites came to the fore. João Almeida launched an attack 44.8 kilometres from the finish and claimed a solo victory, raising his arms for the third time in this race, his first win of this year’s edition.

Having lost significant time on stage one, the UAE Team Emirates – XRG leader added more time on the road and through bonus seconds at the finish, making him the day’s biggest winner. Almeida jumped 11 places in the overall standings and now sits seventh, 2:07 behind Romain Grégoire, who continues to wear the yellow jersey.

Kévin Vauquelin is second overall at 25 seconds, with Julian Alaphilippe up one position to third at 29 seconds. Ben O’Connor sits fourth at 56 seconds, while Lennard Kämna has moved up two places into fifth, now 1:20 behind the leader.

Pablo Castrillo is sixth, followed by Oscar Onley in eighth after a jump of 11 places. Felix Gall surged 21 places into ninth, and Clément Champoussin completes the top 10 after climbing 13 spots.

Further down the standings, António Morgado is 67th, 32:39 behind Grégoire, while Nelson Oliveira lies in 85th at 40:35 and Rui Costa is 108th, trailing by 47:52.
