Remco Evenepoel steps up recovery with altitude training at Sierra Nevada

In the surest sign yet of Remco Evenepoel's recovery progressing, the Soudal - Quick-Step leader has travelled to the Sierra Nevada for some altitude training.

Just over a month since a horror crash at the Itzulia Basque Country left the Belgian with a fractured collarbone and a fractured scapula, Evenepoel has posted his return to altitude to his official Strava account with the caption "Okaaaayy let's go”.

Taking on an 80km ride with over 2,300 metres of elevation gain, Evenepoel completed his ride in just over three hours, averaging out at a speed of 25.8 kilometres per hour. Hardly a rapid time, but the first step in the recovery that Evenepoel hopes will lead him towards Tour de France glory later this summer.
