On Sunday, the World Championship will begin in Wollongong. Riders have already arrived for the event. While exploring the tracks,
Remco Evenepoel had an encounter with a territorial Magpie.
“A fairly large bird came very close, and it just kept following me," said Remco Evenepoel. The rider jokingly said, "It was terrifying. But that's Australia, apparently. I hope it's the only time it happens, but I am afraid of it."
Stefan Küng did not miss the chance to show his sense of humor and said, "Really? They're talking about birds attacking. But yeah, one of our guys has been attacked already by a magpie."
Although outsiders might think this is a new thing, magpie attacks in Australia are common. Magpies swoop at high speed and collide with people at high speed with their feet.
Stefan Kung jokingly advised riders to use antennae on helmets as a preventive measure. "Some guys said you have to mount some antennae on your helmet to scare them away, but that's not so good for aerodynamics," Küng joked.
