The
Primus Classic featured world-class classics riders, and world-class sprinters. It was a mix that saw an aggressive race and an hectic finale, but
Jordi Meeus kept his strong season running as he took perhaps the best win in his career today in Belgium.
“With the rain in the end the finale was really hectic. Ide positioned me very well and due to his work, we avoided the crash. Also on the home straight he kept the speed high, which was important," Meeus said after the finish. After surviving the attacks over the many climbs of the race, the
BORA - hansgrohe found himself in the peloton towards the end.
Meeus was an outsider, as the likes of Jasper Philipsen, Arnaud De Lie and Arnaud Démare were present in the peloton. A late crash however saw the peloton split up, with the Belgian in the front group. Ide Schelling was in the group and helped the group stay away, and Meeus was in the wheel of Arnaud Démare and Max Kanter into the dash for the line.
"Démare started his sprint early, it was close, but my timing was perfect, and I knew I could overtake him in the end," he said. It was a tight one, but Meeus took the win on the day, his second of the month and the season. "I am really happy with this victory but also about my shape today," he concluded.
