Primoz Roglic on maiden Giro d'Italia victory: "I'm going to remember this for a really long time"

Primoz Roglic remained safe in the tricky final circuit in Rome, and confirmed his first Giro d'Italia win this afternoon in Rome. A very special moment for the Slovenian who has recovered from a few heartbreaks over the past few years to take a career-changing win.

"Not really, but I'm enjoying it, all the emotions after everything that happened yesterday," Roglic said in a flash interview following the end of today's stage. The Slovenian celebrated over the line, after having to put in a big effort to remain towards the front until the final kilometers of the race, ensuring he would maintain the few seconds of advantage he had over Geraint Thomas.

"It's always nice to win, but the energy of yesterday and to ride around Rome with all the teams today is also very nice," the newest Grand Tour winner had to say. Mark Cavendish has taken the main glory on the day, but on the top step in Rome it was Roglic, his family and Jumbo-Visma who've taken the biggest of victories.

“Every win is special. I am very grateful to win here. I'm going to remember this for a really long time," Roglic concluded. What follows is unknown, but today Roglic has taken vengeance over the injuries and mistimed bad days which have seen him lose Grand Tours in recent years on multiple occasions.
