Although he was absent from this year's Tour of Flanders, Remco Evenepoel will be at the start line sooner rather than later according to Soudal - Quick-Steps's sports director, Wilfried Peeters.
The potential of seeing Evenepoel racing at the Tour of Flanders is undoubtedly a mouth-watering prospect. Whilst Soudal - Quick-Step refuse to put a definitive date on it, it looks like it will happen one day. “Next year may be too early,” Peeters explains to Het Nieuwsblad. “I wouldn't put a date on it, but one day Remco will be at the start of the Tour of Flanders. That's what I'm assuming.”
Peeters also holds the belief that should Evenepoel take part, he will be there to win. “If you drop Remco Evenepoel at the front of Oude Kwaremont for the second time tomorrow, who will finish him? He's already competed like that, didn't he?" Quick-Step's sports director questions. "Not only in the Baloise Belgium Tour, but also at the World Championship in Leuven and in the Brabantse Pijl. Those were all those kinds of slopes.”
“Remco also learns quickly. Considering how little time he learned to ride right through the pack? How can he prepare for sprinting in the meantime? It is not only the positioning that is important in the Ronde, but also the steering skills," Peeters concludes.
