The first-ever
Tour of Flanders race for
Benoît Cosnefroy resulted in a 16th place finish, with the French cyclist arriving at the finish line more than 5 minutes behind winner
Tadej Pogacar.
The AG2R Citroën rider held his own among the likes of
Stefan Küng, Kasper Asgreen, and
Mads Pedersen, all of whom were regarded as formidable competitors in the race. Despite the tough climbs, he persevered and ultimately achieved a result that was more than honourable.
"I tried to anticipate as expected, but unfortunately, I feel a bit limited on the cobbles against the best riders. I found myself almost alone during the last 30 kilometres, it was very long. It is really an impressive race and I am really happy to have discovered it,” he told Cyclismactu after the race.
All things considered, he was thoroughly pleased with his debut in Flanders and expressed his admiration for the winner, Pogacar, who emerged victorious in a solo fashion despite the challenging course. “It's an extraordinary race, thank you Belgium! Pogacar? Hats off to him. When the three of them caught up with me, I could see that he was the strongest," concluded Cosnefroy.
