He could always try some off road racing, where skills play a part, not just his engine. A great road rider, but not a complete all round rider......13-12-2025 22:41

And that is why CX has been left behind by new off-road disciplines......Its far too traditional. Stuck in the past, and hasn't moved on technically, like the MTB disciplines - which evolve. 33mm tyres are ridiculous now wider are possible; why not allow 40mm, and bring in courses which are more challenging - and more hilly courses, instead of the glut of flat, muddy farmers fields.22-11-2025 14:33

I'm afraid there wouldn't be a showdown, as Tom is on another level on the MTB, in XCO races.....MvdP has a problem crashing on the first lap; 3 out of his last 4 races have ended because of this. The 2019 MvdP was successful, as he raced lots on the MTB, and became the best that season; 3 XCO wins, 5 XCC wins, plus the XCO Euro title.14-08-2025 12:32

If people actually followed more than just pro road cycling, then they'd realise this is what PFP does for her main target every year. She misses a few races, does training camps, and loses some weight so she's at her best for her main race. She even did an interview with Pinkbike 3 years ago before the 2022 MTB Worlds in Les Gets..... She even mentioned it's not healthy to be too light for too long, as women need fat so they can menstruate and produce babies - and once her target is raced, she'll return to her normal weight. All this is out there online - it's not new. Once again, the road world is on the back foot, because they haven't paid attention to other parts of the sport.14-08-2025 12:28

How many CX Worlds did Eddy win? Same for Tadej..... There's more to pro cycling than just the road. MvdP has won Worlds in 3 disciplines, and hopes for more in XCC and XCO.....which could be five.13-08-2025 13:57

The MTB World title - there is no such thing. However, there are World titles in XCC, XCO, XCM, XCE, Enduro, Downhill......... He's after the World title in XCO, but could probably win the XCC title too, as his record is still better than anybody else, and he hasn't ridden an XCC World Cup since May 2021. Ten wins from twelve races says it all..... However, the XCO course is Crans-Montana is technical - he will surely need plenty of time back on the MTB, both training, and racing, otherwise it's going to be another doomed ambition.26-03-2025 13:06

I guess you don't watch MTB, as you would realise he's a level above MvdP, and Wout doesn't even race on the MTB. You sound like the classic ignorant roadie...19-02-2025 14:34

Let's see him off-road on a really technical XCO course......say Mont Sainte-Anne.....15-02-2025 15:53

It probably should have been an option; what does riding the Tour do for his MTB Worlds prep? His recent races on the MTB haven't been a great success, have they? Crans-Montana is a real technical track, and he'll need plenty of prep beforehand; so lots of training & racing on the MTB. This isn't CX, which isn't really technical at all, compared to XCO.14-02-2025 10:51

In most sports they have a season long series, so the best over a year is the World champion; not a 'one off' event were the best can have an off day and not win I wish cycling had this model, as you can't fluke a season long series... .06-02-2025 21:36
