One of the victims of yesterday's flurry of crashes at Paris-Nice was Team DSM's Nils Eekhoff, the young Dutchman suffered a heavy crash in the first half of the stage and could not finish the day as he sustained injuries to the head.
It was a tough stage for many riders in the peloton as the crosswinds dealt chaos in the peloton and several riders hit the deck. One of them was Team DSM's Nils Eekhoff who came down with 90 kilometers to go in the same crash that finished the GC ambitions of David Gaudu and saw Matteo Trentin smash his helmet, which he later shared on social media.
Eekhoff abandoned the race and later the team stated he had sustained a concussion in the incident, and required stitches in his face. On the bright side there were no fractures identified, which should mean he will be in form for the upcoming cobbled classics where he will be an important card.
Cees Bol made it to the front group alongside Soren Kragh Andersen and John Degenkolb, however despite the small group that made it to the finish the Dutch just barely managed to crack the Top10.
