17-year old
Zoe Bäckstedt is still very much within the junior ranks, however she has already gathered the interest, and will be representing a Women's World Tour team this year as she will begin a stint as a trainee from August 1 for the American team.
Bäckstedt is the current junior World champion, and runner-up in the time-trial World championships that took place last year in Leuven, Belgium. She is also an European champion on three disciplines on the track: Individual pursuit, Team Pursuit and Madison. However, it is in cyclocross that her abilities have been shown the most.
In addition to the road, she is also the current Cyclocross junior World champion, having dominated the season in her category. Despite her young age, she has already made her debut winning within the pro ranks, having won the Ethias Cross - Robotland Cyclocross Essen, before finishing the season with several Top10 places within top competition at Elite level.
Bäckstedt, who will be 17 years of age only when her trainee period starts, has told in the team press release: "I'm so excited to be joining Women's WorldTour team EF Education-TIBCO-SVB as a trainee and I can't wait to start racing for them later this year. I love their multi-discipline approach to cycling." Such approach that will suit her priorities very well, as an ongoing dominant figure in cyclocross' development ranks.
Team owner Linda Jackson has added that there are big hopes with the Briton, having said explained that "our goal is to support her overall development and nurture her growing talent. I am so excited at the prospect of what we are going to achieve together."
