After a major switch in his career, after moving out of the French AG2R Citroën Team, Romain Bardet has found a second home at Team DSM and he is said to have already signed a new contract that will see him ride for the Dutch team for another two years.
Velonews reports that the deal has already been signed and is set to be announced this coming monday, the day after the peloton rides up Blockhaus in what will be one of the most important days of the race. The news come after his teammate Thymen Arensman has been confirmed to be leaving the team, with a two-year deal with INEOS Grenadiers having been confirmed already in private.
The Frenchman has joined Team DSM in 2021 and has entered a new chapter of his career, with the Tour de France being put on hold as he seeks out different goals - mainly at the Giro d'Italia, where he finished seventh last year and is currently in contention for the overall classification.
Last year Bardet won a mountain stage at the Vuelta a Burgos, which was later joined by a solo win at the Vuelta a España. This year his early season has been shaped taking into consideration his goals at the Giro d'Italia, and he's taken his second overall classification win at the Tour of the Alps with tremendous support from Arensman.
Currently, Bardet sits tenth in the overall classification at the Giro, well within contention for the win. Tomorrow as the race heads into the queen stage of the Appennines, the order at the top of the classification will be changed and the riders will know better how to deal with the remaining mountain stages.
