The Frenchman has joined Team DSM in 2021 and has entered a new chapter of his career, with the Tour de France being put on hold as he seeks out different goals - mainly at the
Giro d'Italia, where he finished seventh last year and is currently in contention for the overall classification.
Last year Bardet won a mountain stage at the Vuelta a Burgos, which was later joined by a solo win at the Vuelta a España. This year his early season has been shaped taking into consideration his goals at the Giro d'Italia, and he's taken his second overall classification win at the Tour of the Alps with tremendous support from Arensman.
Currently, Bardet sits tenth in the overall classification at the Giro, well within contention for the win. Tomorrow as the race heads into the queen stage of the Appennines, the order at the top of the classification will be changed and the riders will know better how to deal with the remaining mountain stages.
