Miguel Angel Lopez is currently enjoying success with Team Medellin - EPM in Colombia but is very clear that his goal, like that of his compatriot Nairo Quintana, is to return to a European team in order to compete in WorldTour races.
The Colombian cyclist was fired by Astana Qazaqstan Team earlier this year when he was splashed in a doping affair to now has just released an official statement in which he expects CAS to confirm that the Kazakh team had no reason to kick him out, claiming 1.7 million euros:
"Pending the resolution of the dispute with Team Astana at the CAS for considering the unilateral breach of contract unlawful, the UCI has decided to block the bank guarantee of the Kazakh team in the amount of 1,700,000 euros because there are logical reasons in the cyclist's claim and to guarantee, in the case of obtaining the reason of the CAS, the payment of back wages and damages for the possible breach of contract by Astana Team," read the statement.
Lopez' entourage hopes that the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) will end up agreeing with him and that he will be able to compete in Europe again:
"The cleanliness and transparency in the controls of the Colombian climber and the response of the UCI point to the prompt clarification of the facts and a near return of Miguel Angel "Superman" Lopez to the top competition of world cycling."
The statement concludes by affirming that Lopez is preparing races very motivated: "For the time being, Miguel Ángel López continues to be motivated without letting his guard down with the team and is preparing his upcoming races for the Pan American Time Trial Games, the Tour of Turkey and the Tour of Greece, demonstrating that he has the best level and sporting attitude."
