The theme at the beginning of October in the cycling world is the possible super merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step and everything that entails. Former pro Michael Boogerd gave his point of view of the story via the Cycloo platform.
"This is the last thing I expected, this news. Especially because Jumbo-Visma is the strongest team in the world. You read everywhere that they are afraid of the big money from the Middle East, but so far they have been the strongest team with quite a big lead over the rest. It is difficult for me to explain where that stress or panic comes from."
"If you also look at the rider potential of both teams, you will see that the most quality is at Jumbo-Visma," continues the ex-Rabobank rider. "With Patrick Lefevere you could kind of see it coming. He had had his best days and you noticed something like: okay, if I can get rid of the team. But I just didn't expect this from Jumbo-Visma."
