In the final sprint at the
Japan Cup Criterium, towards the end of the 2023 road season, there were incredible scenes as
Lotto Dstny sprinter
Maxim Van Gils slapped a rival in the back on the head out of frustration. Now, he has found out his punishment.
The
UCI have suspended the Belgian for 25 days as a result of his aggressive action towards sprint rival, Georgios Bouglas. Although he quickly posted an apology, almost as soon as the race finished, the 24-year-old was understandably heavily criticised for his actions, including by his own team.
