BORA - hansgrohe reportedly demanding One Million Euro buyout sum for Cian Uijtdebroeks

The ongoing saga of Cian Uijtdebroeks, Team Visma | Lease a Bike and BORA - hansgrohe continues to rumble on. The latest news is that the German-based team are demanding a one million euro buyout sum to part with the young Belgian.
According to reports by Wielerflits, Richard Plugge's Team Visma | Lease a Bike would have offered a year's salary as compensation for Uijtdebroeks' signature however, this fall some way below BORA - hansgrohe's estimation. “However, BORA - hansgrohe now wants to receive almost ten times his annual salary,” reports Wielerflits.
Uijtdebroeks, who was been spotted training in Visma team gear on Sunday, was announced as a new signing for the all-conquering Dutch team on Saturday evening. This announcement was quickly countered however, by a denial from BORA - hansgrohe.
With Primoz Roglic making the switch in the opposite direction earlier in the transfer window in a similar kind of deal as Visma believed they had with Uijtdebroeks, either a buyout of the rider's current contract or an agreement between team and rider is needed to complete the move.

Considering that 100 k would be required as salary payment for 2024, it is unlikely that 1 million will ever be paid. At the max 200 K as the value of the contract unless there was an explicit buyout clause. As the agent himself said that the contract was terminated, it does not look like there is any clause.

- That’s more or less how I see it too. A guy who can win short cyclocrosses, long classics, comes close on some stage races, keeps up with some of the best on moderate climbs and outpowers everyone on steep short ones will have a pretty good reserve for adaptation and specialisation. He already achieved 3rd on LBL after a crash and when not in the best of form without having targeted it specifically, he is CAPABLE of much more than we’ve seen so far.Mistermaumau23-04-2025
- There’s this guy who won the Tour once and has been on GT podiums quite often, similar stature but almost a decade older. Got pretty good at climbing even though he started lufe on the track and was more a TT type. I’ll let you guess and develop your argument (they help to validate or convince of simplistic statements) as to what is or isn’t possible given desire, time and willpower, all things MVDP will have for the time it may take until this becomes a goal for him, so, I say, if he DECIDES to put his mind to it, there are chances he COULD pull it off.
