After a thrilling day's racing at the 2024 E3 Saxo Classic, Nils Politt looked bright, eventually coming home in 7th as Mathieu van der Poel emerged victorious.
"The Tiegemberg was again the decisive factor," the 30-year-old German of UAE Team Emirates reflected in his post-race interview with Eurosport. "We had three guys in the first group and we were playing a little bit but Mathieu was for sure the strongest guy in the peloton today."
With Tim Wellens best placed for UAE Team Emirates in 4th, combined with Politt's 7th means it's a day with plenty of positives for the team to reflect on. "Unfortunately, Wout van Aert fell in front of me on the Paterberg so I had to stop a little bit there," Politt recalls.
"In the end we did a good race. Tim was 4th so no podium but positives," he concludes. "We did a lot of attacks so it was good."
