Late attack gives Archie Ryan brilliant stage win at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali

A late attack has given Archie Ryan a brilliant victory on the penultimate stage of the 2024 Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali

A 10-man group formed the breakaway, notably including Gianluca Brambilla, who started the day just 23 seconds down in the general classification, with the Italian in the virtual lead of the race for much of the stage. He couldn't hold off the peloton to keep it though.

In fact, the last man standing from the break was German, Marco Brenner. With 5km to go though, Brenner too was caught. A counter-attack from Archie Ryan then saw the Irishman off the front in the finale, and it proved decisive for the EF Education-EasyPost man, taking the win ahead of Jenno Berckmoes and Adam Toupalik.
