Marijn van den Berg secured his maiden professional victory by outrunning
Ethan Vernon and
Biniam Girmay in a chaotic sprint to the finish at Trofeo Alcudia.
"It's my first pro win, which is also very nice," Van den Berg said in the post-race interview. He hopes it is just the start of his amazing year. "Hopefully, there will be more to come."
He recalls how it went, "That was the goal, to stay with the first group. After that, we had a perfect lead-out. Neilson, Owain and Julius did a great job. I just had to finish it off."
Today's outcome was the most propitious for Van den Berg and he is not remiss in acknowledging this fact. “This is perfect for me. A tough race, a small group and then a sprint. That's where my strength lies. I already felt very good during the training camp and during the training sessions in recent weeks. I had good legs today, then it's very nice to finish it,” concluded van den Berg.
