Magnus Cort Nielsen wins Veneto Classic as European calendar comes to a close

The final race of the season... The Giro del Veneto closes down the main road calendar for the year and the race has been won by Magnus Cort Nielsen who was part of the early breakaway.

The breakaway of the day was formed by six riders: Magnus Cort Nielsen, Alexis Gougeard, Tobias Bayer, Kyrylo Tsarenko, Anders Foldager and Riccardo Biondani. It ended up being a very dangerous group which would also see the eventual winner.

The hilly circuit saw the peloton split under the many attacks, but away from that the front group continued to ride a very strong pace. Nielsen had the company of Bayer and Foldager, and then ultimately with 6 kilometers to go he dropped his rivals and went on to take an impressive solo victory. A small chasing group battled for second place and here it was Romain Grégoire taking it, whilst Xandro Meurisse took third spot.
