Mads Pedersen pulls out of Giro d'Italia with illness

Not with Covid-19, but another rider has abandoned the Giro d'Italia ill. The weather has been having it's consequences, Mads Pedersen will not start stage 13 this morning after waking up with a sore throat and tracheitis.

This comes as a consequences of many days spent in the rainy and cold weather, which have so far contributed to the dozens of riders who have abandoned the Corsa Rosa. Pedersen is the second rider of Trek - Segafredo abandoning the race, with Natnael Tesfatsion also abandoning ill yesterday.

This plays a meaningful role in the fight for the points classification, which the Dane was targeting. Having already won a stage his main goal was achieved, but he was the main favourite to take the maglia ciclamino home.

The Dane was second in the classification after yesterday where he was in the breakaway, ending the day with 140 points against the 164 of Jonathan Milan who now takes an isolated lead.
